Explore the Pelion Mountain
The Pelion mountain is thickly forested and criss-crossed by stone-paved mule tracks, Pelion is a walker’s paradise and we explore the tallest peaks on east and west side of the mountain. Our guided walks take place in early and late season when the weather is cooler.
You are led by our local guide and lifts by car or bus will be provide to the start/stop point as required. The walking can be steep but should not trouble the reasonably fit. Walking boots (or good trainers) and a day-pack should be taken.
The hiking plan is as shown below but we will always adjust the plan in accordance with our guests requirements and the weather.
A week of Hiking in Pelion
1st Day:Arrival
Arrive at the accommodation and meet your guide and have a discussion about safety on the mountains and a brief presentation of the history and nature of Mt Pelion.
2nd Day: Hiking from Kala Nera to Milies.
A nice path with a lot of traditional cobbled parts that starts from Kala Nera a village next to the sea and takes you through plain tree forests and olive groves to Milies, a mountain village with a lot of traditional and religious places of interest. Visit some places and have a snack or coffee to nice traditional café. Return to Kala Nera through another path in the afternoun. Easy to medium difficulty.
3rd Day: Hiking from Portaria to Chania.
A mostly gobbled path that takes you from Portaria a village situated on the west side of Pelion and leads you through nice forests and flowery plateaus with excellent views to Pagasitikos Gulf to Chania a place full of Motels and traditional taverns very near the highest peak of the mountain. We have a snack there and relax before we return to Portaria through ,partially, another path. Easy to medium difficulty.
4th Day: Rest day and a guided tour to the traditional village of Makrinitsa.
A village where cars are banned. We will visit the old Monastery , relax and have lunch at the fantastic square with the amazing view of Volos and Pagasitikos gulf.
5th Day: Hiking from Milies to Tsagarada.
A fantastic path that takes you through magical forests from the west side of Pelion to the east side and ends up in Tsagarada one of the most beautiful villages of the mountain. We have lunch at the traditional square where you will see the more than 1000 year old plain tree. Return to the base by car. Medium difficulty.
6th Day: Hiking from the highest peak of Pelion to Mouresi.
The most beautiful path of the mountain. It crosses thick birch forests and passes you from some peaks with fantastic views and finally ends up in Mouresi a traditional village at the east side of Pelion. Rest and have lunch there. Medium to hard hiking. 7 hours.
You will be presented with a photo file at the end of your week.
Arrival/start day (Day 1) is Friday or Saturday then you have 5 days of activities leaving 1 free day during the week. Accommodation will be for 7 nights.
