Sporades Island Cruise in the 'Africana'
Platania, a picturesque fishing village and small port on the southern slopes of Mt. Pelion (59km from the city of Volos) is a beautiful location from which to explore the south Pelion peninsular and enjoy this traditional fishing village and beaches.
Platania is also the departure port of the 'Africana', a lovely 100 passenger ship that sets sail daily, throught the summer months, for the lovely shores of southern Pelion and the Northern Sporades Islands (Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonnissos)
Leaving Platania every weekday at approx. 9.30am, it follows the coast of southern Pelion (Kastri, Katiyiorgi) as it heads towards Skiathos. On its way it passes the famous Kastronisia, lying off the northern tip of the island, then Lalaria and Spilia, before sailing into the port of Skiathos, where it remains for 2 hours.
After this, at 1300hrs, passengers on the 'Africana' have the opportunity to visit and enjoy a swim at the famous Koukounaries beach, a place of unique beauty, with the shady green of the pine forest and its expanse of golden sand.
Disembarking from the 'Africana' upon its return to Platania at 1700hrs you may be tempted to enjoy a meal at one of the seafront tavernas savouring freshly-caught fish and delicious specialities. The famous 'AKTI' restaurant comes highly recommended.
On Sundays, apart from its tour of Skiathos, the itineary includes Skopelos, with is fabulous beaches, Elio (Neo Klima), the verdant Milies, Panormo with its clear turquoise waters and a visit to the picturesque port of Agnonda.
The 'Africana' can also, upon request, arrange cruises to Alonnissos, an island of rare beauty.
