Travelling by land to Greece
Planning a road trip from the UK to Greece can be a lot of fun and made easy by the wealth of on-line mapping systems we have available these days. Google Maps, Multimap etc will provide very accurate mapping information and with Google Earth you can even follow you journey in 3D. Basically you cover France, maybe Luxembourge, maybe Germany, maybe Switzerland, Italy and then over to Greece by ferry. The journey to Volos can be completed in 3 days or three months the choice is yours.

From Athens to Volos by intercity bus in 4 hours and 30 min (324km).
From Thessaloniki to Volos by intercity bus in 3 hours (216km).
From Athens to Volos by rail in 4 hours and 45 min.
From Thessaloniki to Volos by rail 3 hours.
KTEL Intercity Buses is a privately owned national bus service providing intercity and local bus services. They operate quality, air conditioned coach services between Athens, Thessaloniki (and other cities) and Volos running at regular times throughout the day and night. Tel:0030 24210 33253 & 25527 and they have a website www.ktelvolou.gr which is Greek only currently but if you can read a little Greek you can easily find the bus times. Bus fare from Athens/Thessaloniki to Volos is approximately 25 Euro per person.
Many taxi companies are willing to do long distance journeys for a reasonable fee, but it is better to arrange this in advance which we can do for you if required. Cost is approx 150/200 Euro.
