Preparing for Your Visit in the Capital of Greece

Regardless of which city or country you travel to, you must allot ample time for preparation. Although getting ready will not take as long as joining a sailing competition because of the training involved, it must be done with consideration to the details. That way, your trip will be more enjoyable and less stressful. If you have decided to visit Athens, here are some tips to ensure that your vacation take off without a hitch.

First, determine when you want to visit. During winter, Greece has a relatively mild weather, making it a comfortable time to travel. Summers, on the other hand, are usually scorching hot. The sights and sounds of the Hellenic Republic though will cure you of any discomfort that you may feel. But, avoid visiting Athens on August, specifically during the national holiday since most attractions and restaurants are close.

Second, you need to have the necessities taken care of. This means that you must have your flight and accommodation booked and confirmed, before anything else. Your dream vacation would not be realised if you do not have the means to get to your destination or a place to sleep in.

Third, ready your documents. You must have a passport in order to gain entry. With regards to VISA, you may be exempted from bringing one if you are a UK or EU national. However, you are only allowed to stay for 90 days. Beyond that, you would have to apply for an extension.

Fourth, familiarise yourself in getting around the place. It is best that you have an idea beforehand what mode of transportation you want to take once you arrive at the Athens International Airport. It would be a good idea to rent a car or arrange for airport transfer as both options are quite convenient. Then again, the adventure lies on taking the public transport and finding the fastest way in getting around the city traffic.

Lastly, make a list of attractions that you want to see. That way, you can get information on their schedule of operation and fees. And, when you want to break away from the heat, you can then charter a boat so you can enjoy the cool sea breeze.
